Northside Makers: donations and farewell

The Northside Makers committee have decided to wind up the group, and donate its assets to other not-for-profit groups in Melbourne's northern suburbs.

Thornbury Women's Neighbourhood House has been given $850 towards the continuation of their Made In Thornbury market and Make Craft Your Business course. We're very pleased to be able to help TWNH in this way, as they provided so much inspiration and support to Northside Makers. You can find out more about TWNH, their market and courses on their website.

Sprout Community Markets have been chosen to receive a cash donation, marquee and tables. Sprout supports sustainable food and creativity, and is a project of Mind Australia - supporting mental health recovery. Find out more about Sprout Community Market, including how to apply for a stall, here.

Green Renters has also been chosen to received a cash donation, to support their DIY workshops on making jams and preserves, natural cleaning, homemade skincare products and more. Green Renters is a not-for-profit organisation supporting renters who want to decrease their impact on the planet. You can find out more about Green Renters' workshops here.

The Olive Grove Studios collective will receive the badge maker to run a charity of the month incentive in store. Sales from all badges made will go to the charity chosen by the members of the Olive Grove community, via their Facebook page. A new charity being chosen every two months to receive 100% of the money raised. This project is a great way for the proceeds of Northside Makers to continue "giving back" to the community.

We're very pleased to be able to support these groups who are making our community a more creative place.

May your bobbin always be full and your brush bristly! Craft on, Makers.

Bundoora Homestead Art Centre have released their guide for 2011.

Not only do they have exhibitions, but they also have hands on workshops as well for minimal cost. An up and coming one that I thought Northside peeps might like is the crochet tea cosy workshop.

Open studios Nicholas Building 2010

It's that time of the year again. The time to take a look inside some very creative studios and get inspired and motivated all over again.

Open Studios Nicholas Building 2010

Thursday 19th & Friday 20th August, 2010
4pm-9pm (both nights)

picture via Visit Melbourne

Over at the Nicholas Building Blog, there's an eInvite where you can see the list of all the artists and it is like a who's who of Handmade in Melbourne!

You can wander in and out of studios, take a look at some wonderful handmade items and if you are lucky, partake in champagne and nibblies. Get there early because it can get a bit crowded and most of the transversing of levels occurs via stairs and not the ricketty manual elevator which is probably heritage listed.

Are you going? Have you been?
Share your experiences of the Nicholas Building Open Studio.
